Extreme sports killing the elderly?

Extreme sports are sometimes not the domain of the elderly. It requires a lot of physical conditions that might not suit elderly people. Dangerous sports are attracting well-settled elderly people who feel this is one of the things they need to do before they die. The irony is that these sports are actually causing the elderly death.

What may be the reasons? Elderly people often take time to recover from injuries. This could prove fatal. Some elderly people may already have some health conditions, and an injury only aggravates this condition.

Most injuries are caused in extreme sporting activity such as rock climbing, mountaineering, and sky diving, and skiing. It is still not clear why elderly people choose extreme sports. While some say that they are drawn to it for love, some people are of the opinion that the elderly want to regain their lost youthfulness through such sport.

It must be said that extreme sports needs physical fitness levels that are different from other sporting activity. Extreme sports always have the danger factor associated with them. This is because they are performed in uncontrolled or low-controlled external environments.

The U.S. Parachute Association (USPA) has reported a sharp increase in membership. A sizeable chunk of the membership applications are from elderly people. The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association’s (SGMA) is also becoming popular with retirees who want to enroll in their rock climbing programs.

Nothing is impossible. But everything requires method. Extreme sports organizations need to have a screening process before they enroll people. This could solve problems associated with injury to elderly people who do extreme sports.

For a change if you would want to come out of suffocating gyms, and boring treadmills, and look for a new way of fitness, here are some extreme sporting activity that can help you.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is one heck of an extreme sporting activity that makes you strong, lean, and tough. You will get strong muscles, a flexible body, and a really lean body. Rock climbers need tremendous all-round strength, physical and mental stamina, high-capacity muscles, and less weight.

If you can combine your weight training workouts with rock climbing, you will look and feel very strong. Rock climbing is probably one activity that prolongs tension on your muscles, thereby increasing its capacity for exertion, and also making it grow. In the process, your muscles will burn your fat.

Surfing

Although surfing looks like sky-walking on water, it is not. It is a highly strenuous activity, which demands balance, strength, agility, and weightlessness. Surfing is a fun way to lose weight even without knowing it. You might not gain a lot of muscular strength, but you sure will look great with a lean, mean body.

Which are the best hiking trails in the world? A good hiking trail should have all the essential qualities of adventure. It should be rugged, have plenty of risk, and yet b safe for an experienced hiker. To get the best hiking trails in the world might not be that easy. Much of the opinion is based on user feedback.

Tongariro Northern Circuit, New Zealand
New Zealand is the land of hiking trails. It has beautiful scenery, and dramatic views. It’s probably the only country where hiking is so much fun. Tongaro Reserve on the Northern Island of New Zealand has a two nights, three days hiking activity. It provides hikers with spectacular views and a rich experience amongst nature. On the Tongaro Reserve, hikers tread on volcanic mountains. It will feel like trekking on Mars! All around there are gigantic mountains, and steep drops. The striking diversity makes for a breathtaking trekking.

Zian Narrows, United States
Zion Narrows is as good as trekking through the Tongaro Reserve. It offers people an experience like no other. The scenery of Zian Narrows is breathtaking. Hikers trek through walls and walls of sandstone in their quest to find the other end of the hiking trail. During the hike, hikers will traverse through a two mile long narrow stretch in bottled water – within walls of sandstone. These canyons are truly amazing to watch and experience. Through the cracks, water trickles down into the canyon. A point to remember is the weather. Hikers are advised not to trek during the rains.

Training For Extreme Sports ? Do Not Expect Spoon Feeding Here

Many persons are attracted by the various professional extreme sporting activities seen on television. However, nine out of ten persons back out and go back to their ordinary life because there is virtually no formal training in the world of extreme sports. You can contact a professional and request him or her to train you.

Chances are remote that you will earn the respect of other participants by adopting such an approach. How can somebody train you to save your life, perform a stunt and look cool in the process? It is something that has to come from within. As far as the basics are concerned, it is just question of having the right equipment, trying again and again, failing, breaking the bones, before getting it right.

The manner in which extreme sports is portrayed as a cult or an art instead of a sport often discourages many from proceeding further. However, this is a good thing because there is no artificial limit imposed on extreme sports. It all depends on the ability and tendency of the individual to take risks.

If you think you can perform four loops when your motorcycle is in the air when all others can perform just three, you are most welcome to try it. If you fail, chances are high that you will land on your neck and end up crippled for the rest of your life. If you succeed, the resulting name, fame and glory will be yours.

Unfortunately, this is a bit too simplistic and too crude for individuals. This is the reason why there are many who follow extreme sports but are hesitant to participate.

Don’t Take a Vacation from Exercise, no Matter How Tempting

For many people, taking a vacation means leaving everything behind, and they do mean everything. Unfortunately, for some this also means forgetting about the exercise routine. Some people can do this with few or no consequences. Others, however, cannot or should not let their exercise routines slip, even while they are on vacation.

Fortunately, it is possible to continue your fitness regimen even while you are on vacation. And there are so many ways of doing this that it is almost impossible to get bored. If this is your first time on a cruise ship, most likely one of the first things you will want to do is to see as much of the ship as possible. What better way of doing this than walking the decks of the ship? If it is a multi-deck ship, you can schedule a daily walk on a different deck as part of your cruise ship fitness plan. After that, you can enjoy one of the sumptuous meals (in moderation, of course) before hitting the pool later that afternoon for a swim.

The next day, your schedule can include taking a walk on one of the other decks, then either hitting the fitness room (many ships have them) or taking a dance class. If they don’t have a fitness room, take advantage of the rails and handholds that are placed along corridors to aid you in walking and hold them while you do some squats and lunges.

If there are no dance classes scheduled, look to see if any special dances are being held. Remember that dancing, even ballroom dancing, is also good exercise, so take advantage of these as part of your cruise ship fitness plan. Then, have some fun by rewarding yourself for not taking a vacation from exercise by allowing yourself one indulgence — either a decadent dessert or one extra trip to the midnight buffet. You’ve deserved it.

Mixed martial arts

Mixed martial art has gained wide popularity all over the world in the past few years because of the various promotional activities by UFO. The popularity of MMA can be imagined from the fact that the MMA clothing brand Tapout which was a small clothing brand has grown to an international company in just few years.

Although, MMA is fought indoors, it is very different from typical indoor fighting sports, such as boxing, kickboxing and even traditional martial arts. While the rules and fitness requirements for all these sports are well-defined, MMA has gained worldwide recognition only recently with the onset of UFC and live telecast of matches on pay-per-view TV. As the popularity of MMA has increased, more interest in MMA fitness requirements is witnessed.

MMA is an extreme sport with the requirement for high level of physical fitness. To reach to an ideal fitness level as a MMA player, one should be open to learning and training and should attend all the workout sessions regularly. While MMA is an extreme sport with the requirements for fitness, strength, and endurance, the workout is designed to ensure one’s safety.

MMA fitness not only requires physical fitness, but demands being in fighting shape. One has to start slow and be persistent to gain the required strength, stamina, and steadiness. Be careful not to push yourself too hard. You might get injured and an injury will act as a negative catalyst to discourage you from your goal.

Wearing the right training attire is also very important while practicing MMA fitness. Your clothes should fit you well, especially your shoes. You can opt from specific MMA clothing brands, such as Tapout, who design clothes especially for MMA players.

If you stick to all the above and follow a strict exercise regime, you will definitely attain the fitness level you need to become a MMA artist.
